Publisher's Description:

Looking Glass is a geometric optics construction set that allows students to create and explore situations involving several objects, lenses, mirrors and images. This software takes an interactive, visual approach to physics. Looking Glass will help students develop an intuition for the effect of lenses and mirrors on light rays. Students will gain a better understanding of the physics behind the images. By creating and exploring their own lenses and mirrors with Looking Glass, students encounter many of the core concepts in optics.

Looking Glass was designed for use in high school and college physics studies. The software offers convex and concave lenses and mirrors; virtual and real images; thin-lens modeling; and mks units. Online help and tutorials are provided to help teachers integrate the software into their curriculum.

With Looking Glass, students can now explore the behavior of lenses and mirrors using only their computer, Living Graph Paper and their imagination.

you are correct, they are laiititmons and I firmly believe we should find our equipments limits so we know how far we can push them. In future posts, I will write more about lenses and their faults . I prefer to work only in the sweet spot zone because I want to do as little photoshop correction as possible because time is valuable. Generally the more expensive lenses have more diminished issues in the CA department. In most cases, the expensive lenses have the same problems but at different performance levels, for example, the Canon 50mm 1.2 L lens set at it's widest aperture will suffer the same lack of sharpness and vignetting as a less expensive 50mm 1.8 at it's widest aperture. In both lenses, you can eliminate these problems by stepping down the aperture 1 to 2 stops. The 50mm 1.2 will always have a 1 stop advantage, along with it's sturdier build, weather sealing, and fast auto-focus. The more expensive lens will give you better color tones and contrast than the cheaper one, but's thats another blog. I hope I was clear, if not just tell me.
